NY NOW: Home and Lifestyle Trade Show

Last week I attended the NY NOW trade-show, which is held twice a year at the Jacob Javit’s Convention Center. I enjoy going and seeing what is new and exciting, as well as making connections with new suppliers. Here are what some of the highlights were for me.

Wall Decor (NY NOW)

Joe Medina Sculpture

I had the pleasure of meeting Joe Medina and seeing his wall sculptures. I am an animal lover, so a deer head made of wood or wrenches is perfect in my eyes.

Joe is from upstate NY and has a Fine Arts degree. He has previously worked as a precision machinist and sculptor. I spoke to him for a while, but it wasn’t until I visited his website that I learned of his background in prop making. His website says, “He sculpted for Phantom of the Opera, Lion King, Wicked, San Francisco Ballet Nutcracker, Radio City, The Rockettes, as well as numerous Disney and Broadway productions.” How impressive! It is interesting how all of his experience has led him to be the artist he is today, bringing whimsical art to life.

Accessories (NY NOW)

Michaelian Home
Michaelian Home

Michaelian Home is a company that sells gorgeous needlepoint pillows. Geometric patterns, florals, landscapes, animals; you name it, it is on a pillow. In fact, they have over 500 designs. In keeping with the deer theme, I had to share some deer needlepoints.

Luxury Bedding (NY NOW)

Fino Lino at NY NOW’s Home and Lifestyle show

Fino Lino is a line of Luxury Linens. They sell bed lines, cashmere lambswool throws, table linens and decorative pillows. I particularly liked this line because the fabrics they use are exquisite and their attention to detail is evident in the craftsmanship. The colors and textures of the fabrics are combined in their collections, to be elegant and timeless. They also allow you to customize your bedding through their workroom. Finding a line of bedding that I like is a home run because designing from scratch, can be very laborious.

I heard a great expression this week. “Whoever said money can’t buy happiness doesn’t know where to shop.” I never thought of myself as materialistic but…..that whimsical deer head, those beautiful pillows and those extraordinary bed linens would absolutely make me happy.

The show is an excellent resource for me, to find new lines and see trends. They also host lectures on hot topics of the industry. This year there is a lot of emphasis on sustainability and being socially conscious. The next NY NOW is in August and I will be there!

Thanks for letting me share my design world with you. If you are enjoying my posts please subscribe.

Hi I am Barbara Rose. I am an Interior Designer and I started design2bhappy to inspire others to think of Interior Design as more than just creating a beautiful home. It is about living comfortably, while being surrounded by things you love. It is about creating an environment that we feel good in while providing a sanctuary to counter- balance the stress that life can throw at us. This blog is aimed at helping others achieve that "there is no place like home" feeling.

  1. I’m not materialistic but I believe in purchasing quality made goods whether they are for your home or self as they will last longer and not contribute to our landfills. Money well spent if it truly makes someone happy… I don’t judge! 🙂
Thank you for sharing all these beautiful and exiting items… I am looking forward to your next post!
